sledding

Yesterday morning, we went to a nearby hill for some sledding.

The only problem: we don't own a sled.

Neither Gabriel or I want to buy a big hunk of plastic, but the beautiful wooden flyer sleds are kind of pricey. I doubt we'll find some abandoned sleds to refurbish like Gabriel's cousin Jared did (amazing work!), but I think we'll hold off on buying one until they go on sale at the end of the season.

In the meantime, the top of our garden wagon works. Kind of.
Liam loved sledding down the hill. That is until it dumped him at the end of a run and he landed on his face. At that point, he most definitely did not like sledding. He wanted to go home.
Our neighbors were there sledding, too, and they were kind enough to lend us their sled for Gabriel and Liam to slide down together.
But once we figured out that we could slide just fine without any sled at all, we went down the hill over and over again. On our bottoms. On our tummies. Liam's favorite was for us to slide like seals together. I'm working up a huge bruise on my hip, but it was a lot of fun.
River loved the sledding, too. He'd flap his arms with glee every time we walked back up the hill, but when it came to sliding down, he was serious about experiencing the ride.
At the bottom of the hill, the smile always returned.
